Saints continue to bolster their offensive line, adding two veteran free agents on Monday per reports

By Bob Rose - Saints News Network | SI

Nick Underhill of neworleans.football reports that the New Orleans Saints are signing veteran offensive linemen Shane Lemieux and Justin Herron on Monday.

Lemieux, who turns 27 on May 12, has been in the NFL for four seasons. He played collegiately at Oregon, where he was back-to-back 1st Team All-Pac 12 and a 1st Team All-American in 2019 as a guard for one of the more productive offenses in the country.

The New York Giants selected Lemieux with a fifth-round choice in the 2020 NFL Draft. He'd win the starting job at left tackle midway through the year as a rookie, finishing 2020 with 12 game appearances and nine starts. Early into the 2021 campaign, Lemieux was knocked out for the season after just one game with a knee injury.

Lemieux was hit by the injury bug again in 2022. A turf toe injury kept him out of all but one contest. Lemieux suffered a torn biceps early last year, again ending his season after only four games. ...

The New Orleans Saints are zigging when the rest of the NFL is zagging, at least on special teams. They’re committed to making the Australian style of punting work in the NFL. After signing and starting former Miami punter Lou Hedley (a Mandurah, Australia native) last year, they’ve brought in Vanderbilt punter Matthew Hayball (from Geelong, Australia) to compete with him.

There are some pretty significant differences between the two despite their shared nationality; Hedley is from a smaller town on Australia’s west coast, while Hayball comes from the more populous southern coast 36...

No team accomplished everything it wanted to in the 2024 NFL draft — including the New Orleans Saints, who are still looking to plug holes by signing veteran free agents in the days after the selection event. One obvious vulnerability they need to address is the left guard spot, following James Hurst’s decision to retire.

And here’s a couple of options who could help out. NewOrleans.Football’s Nick Underhill reported Monday that the Saints signed former New York Giants guard Shane Lemieux following a free agent tryout. Lemieux, who turns 26 in a few weeks, primarily plays on the left side...

Some guys are just easy to root for when they make it to the NFL. And New Orleans Saints rookie draft pick Josiah Ezirim falls squarely in that camp. His father Emmanuel shared a video on social media of the moment his son received a life-changing phone call from the Saints, who selected him in the seventh round of the 2024 NFL draft.

Ezirim’s energy is infectious. He’s all but bursting at the seams, amped up and ready to go to work, rocking back and forth and slapping his thigh while speaking with the Saints. Overwhelmed in the moment, it took about a minute for him to think to tell his...

The New Orleans Saints ended up with a very intriguing quarterback in the middle of the 2024 NFL draft as they selected South Carolina quarterback Spencer Rattler with the No. 150 overall selection in the fifth round.

Rattler, once the best pro-style quarterback out of high school, had a very contentious college career that landed him as a project player instead of a first-round guy. He famously had his own fans calling for him to be benched in favor of Caleb Williams at Oklahoma. He then transferred to South Carolina where he was able to actually revive his career a good bit.

He’s...

When the New Orleans Saints were on the clock with the No. 42 overall selection in the draft after trading up, there were a lot of positions that people expected to be call. Cornerback was not one of them. Much to the surprise of many, that’s where they went with Alabama defensive back Kool-Aid McKinstry.

Since it wasn’t really a position of need, what exactly are the expectations for McKinstry as a rookie? Well that really depends on what happens with the current roster of cornerbacks that New Orleans has at their disposal. Marshon Lattimore is constantly in the trade rumor mills...

The New Orleans Saints aren’t finished signing rookie free agents after the 2024 NFL draft. They’ve added former Arkansas and Missouri defensive end Trajan Jeffcoat, as first reported by NewOrleans.Football’s Nick Underhill.

Jeffcoat, 24, started his career at Missouri before transferring to Arkansas (where he was voted a team captain) in 2023 after earning his degree. He’s a highly experienced prospect with 60 games behind him in the SEC. And he put up respectable numbers with 27.5 tackles for loss and 15.5 sacks in his career.
