There aren't many NFL hopefuls that would prefer to go undrafted, but in some cases that's the optimal situation when it allows a player to pick a spot they fit best.

That's what Dallin Holker is hoping to be the case in joining the Saints as one of their 16 undrafted free agents, a scenario the former Colorado State tight end broke down on WWL Radio this week.

"I always wanted to go down to Louisiana and we’re like, hey, it seems like the best fit, so let’s do it," Holker told WWL's Mike Detillier and Charlie Long. I felt really good about it, I was praying the whole day and stuff, but yea, it just felt right so I’m super grateful and thankful for the opportunity.” ...

Saints waive QB Kellen Mond and OL Tommy Kraemer, per reports

The New Orleans Saints have waived both QB Kellen Mond and OL Tommy Kraemer, according to a report from Field Yates.

The news comes after the Saints added depth via the NFL Draft to both position groups, so it isn’t a shock to see that New Orleans has moved on.

Mond has bounced around in the early portion of his NFL career, spending time with the Minnesota Vikings and Indianapolis Colts since being drafted in 2021.

With the selection of Spencer Rattler, the Saints now have Derek Carr, Jake Haener, Nathan Peterman, Spencer Rattler, and Taysom Hill in the quarterback room.

Kraemer has...

Saints let go of quarterback as rookie camp nears

METAIRIE, La. — The New Orleans Saints have trimmed their heavy quarterback roster Wednesday by moving from offseason signee Kellen Mond.

The drafting of Spencer Rattler along with the presence of veteran Nathan Peterman and 2023 draft pick Jake Haener, all to back up starter Derek Carr, made the move necessary.

Mond, who played college ball at Texas A&M, hasn't played in the NFL since 2021 when he threw three passes and completed two for five yards. The Saints signed him a month ago to give the team some depth in training camp and during offseason workouts, but the unexpected signing of...

Saints waive backup quarterback Kellen Mond before rookie minicamp

And then there were four. ESPN’s Field Yates first reported that the New Orleans Saints have waived backup quarterback Kellen Mond, just a few days before the start of rookie minicamp. The Saints were overcrowded at quarterback between Derek Carr, Jake Haener, Nathan Peterman, Mond, and this year’s fifth-round draft pick Spencer Rattler. Someone was going to go.

As we expected, Mond was the first to go. He was also the latest to sign, having arrived in New Orleans just before the 2024 NFL draft (and a month after Peterman). So Peterman will have to make his case for a spot on the Saints...

Saints waive backup OL Tommy Kraemer despite thin depth chart

What’s the move here? The New Orleans Saints were already thin along the offensive line, but on Wednesday they opted to waive backup blocker Tommy Kraemer, per ESPN’s Field Yates. It’s a bit of a surprise after Kraemer played an important role last season, backing up both Cesar Ruiz (at right guard) and Ryan Ramczyk (at right tackle).

But the team’s new coaching staff must feel differently about him, or at least see better options available in free agency. The Saints now have an open spot on the 90-man roster after waiving both Kraemer and quarterback Kellen Mond, so another addition...

In this week’s CSC poll, we asked readers who they would most like to see the New Orleans Saints open the 2024 season against:

After 240 votes, it was the Denver Broncos, earning 50% of the vote. The game against the Broncos will mark Sean Payton’s return to the Superdome after retiring as head coach of the Saints after the 2021 season. This will be Payton’s second season as coach of the Broncos after an underwhelming 2023 season. The Broncos are hoping #12 overall pick Bo Nix is their quarterback of the future, but come Week 1, I would be surprised if he is the starter and not Zach...

5 free agent offensive linemen for Saints after losing Andrus Peat

The New Orleans Saints entered this offseason with the expectation of finding a starting-caliber offensive tackle to at least compete with former first-round pick Trevor Penning. However, as the offseason progressed the Saints found themselves in a deeper hole than initially thought. Former All-Pro tackle Ryan Ramczyk is on the brink of retirement while dealing with a degenerative knee. The team also was hit with the retirement of offensive lineman James Hurst, who started a total of 51 games in his four seasons with the Saints.

The team did patch at least one of these holes in selecting right tackle Taliese Fuaga in Round 1 of the NFL draft but there is still room to add help along this front five. Whether they want to admit it or not,

Can A.T. Perry fill Michael Thomas’ role

The New Orleans Saints parted ways with veteran wide receiver Michael Thomas during the 2024 off-season. Thomas, who has been a member of the team since being drafted in 2016, has been to three pro bowls, is a two-time All-Pro, was the 2019 Offensive Player of the Year, and set the NFL record for most receptions in one season.

The Saints traded up in the 2023 draft to select Wake Forest wide receiver A.T. Perry. Perry was a reception machine in college, racking up 152 catches during his final two seasons, averaging just under 6 catches a game. Coming out of college, scouts expressed...

Predicting the Saints' starting offense following the 2024 NFL draft

  • News source: John Sigler

It’s no secret that the New Orleans Saints’ offense wasn’t good enough last season. They struggled to protect the quarterback, establish the run, pick up third downs, and end drives with touchdowns, among other things successful units around the league do each week. And there hasn’t been a ton of turnover for them on offense this spring, either. The Saints are gambling on massive changes to the offensive coaching staff to lead to better results, not big changes to the starting lineup.

Maybe that’s the right approach. If Klint Kubiak can be a league-average play caller after Pete Carmichael was the NFL’s worst, that might be enough for the Saints to score more points and win more games in 2024. Either way, we’re expecting most of the starting lineup to return for 2023. But that doesn’t mean there isn’t room for change:
