The New Orleans Saints’ potent running game will be short on some firepower to start the season.

The NFL has suspended Mark Ingram for the first four games of the 2018 season for violating its policy on performance-enhancing drugs. He will be eligible to participate in all offseason activities, including preseason games, but will not be able to take the field during the season until Week 5 against the Washington Redskins.

The Pro Bowl running back became one of the focal points of the offense over the past two seasons and is coming off his best season in which he rushed for 1,124 yards and 12 touchdowns on 230 carries, averaging 4.9 yards per attempt. He also caught 58 passes for 416 yards.

Ingram paired with Alvin Kamara and helped turn the Saints offense into a balanced attack, one against which defenses sometimes attempted to stop the running game instead of focusing on the pass. That might not be as much of a problem at the beginning of this season with one of the key pieces missing.

Which games gave Drew Brees the most trouble in his storied NFL career? The former New Orleans Saints quarterback and future Pro Football Hall of Famer shared his take on the toughest challenges he and his teammates had to overcome during a Wednesday appearance on “The Herd” with Colin Cowherd.

Brees said it was those divisional matchups on a short week, played under the bright lights in prime time, that lost him the most sleep. He emphasizes greatly with what players on both the Detroit Lions and Green Bay Packers are going through ahead of Thursday night’s kickoff.

“These games were...

The stars were out for last weekend’s rivalry game between the Texas Longhorns and Texas A&M Aggies. And they weren’t limited to just famous alumni like Heisman Trophy winner Johnny Manziel. Former New Orleans Saints quarterback Drew Brees made the trip to Kyle Field, too, and his presence there didn’t go unnoticed.

There were dozens of cameras on hand for the high-profile matchup, and one of them caught an exchange between Brees and Manziel prior to kickoff, which he spoke about on “The Herd” with Colin Cowherd this week.

“I always wanted to be an Aggie,” Brees had laughed, shaking...

Veteran New Orleans Saints safety Roderic Teamer has been suspended three games without pay for violating the NFL’s substances of abuse policy, the league announced Wednesday. Teamer was on the Saints practice squad and is eligible to be reinstated on Dec. 24, after their Week 16 game with the Green Bay Packers.

Teamer had only played on special teams in a couple of games earlier this season, but the Saints’ depth at safety had been questioned after a shoulder injury sidelined Tyrann Mathieu during Sunday’s loss to the Los Angeles Rams. Mathieu is expected to play in their upcoming game...

Drew Brees has seen a thing or two in his football life, and he shared his thoughts on what teams should look for when hiring a new head coach during a recent appearance on “The Herd” with Colin Cowherd. Specifically, the legendary former New Orleans Saints quarterback advocated for coaches with background working on the offensive side of the ball.

While Cowherd’s question focused on the Chicago Bears, who need a new coach to mentor and develop Caleb Williams, much of what Brees spoke about could soon apply to the Saints’ situation, too.

“Whether that’s an offensive head coach or that’s...

Wednesday’s initial New Orleans Saints injury report was a mixed bag of news ahead of Sunday’s game with the New York Giants. Last week’s brief injury report was nice while it lasted — the list has since grown from six names to twelve, doubling in size.

Some of these developments are positive, but not many. Running back Kendre Miller (hamstring) is one of the new additions as he returns to practice in anticipation of being activated again from injured reserve. Another new listing is rookie wide receiver Bub Means (ankle), who was limited.

But losing impact players like tight end Taysom...

B/R bolsters Saints receiving corps with this hypothetical

Bleacher Report went through an interesting hypothetical scenario recently. They chose one retired player from the last 25 years of each team’s history to add to the current roster.

For the New Orleans Saints, the staff went with wide receiver Marques Colston. It was a surprising but, not unfounded, choice. The obvious selection would have been Drew Brees. Trading Derek Carr in for one of the greatest quarterbacks of all time seemed like a no-brainer.

In addition to Colston, Jahri Evans and Jabari Greer are also good choices. New Orleans needs help in a lot of areas, but what made...

With Tommy DeVito still dealing with a sore forearm, Drew Lock will make his second straight start at quarterback for the Giants when New York plays host to the New Orleans Saints on Sunday.

Coach Brian Daboll announced the decision on Wednesday, saying Lock showed some good things against Dallas in a loss on Thanksgiving and he will get all the snaps with the first team.

DeVito, who was hurt in his first start after replacing Daniel Jones for the game against Tampa Bay on Nov. 24, was limited at practice. Daboll said it remains to be seen whether he can be the backup Sunday at MetLife...
