By Dean Mullen

Make no mistake, Taysom Hill has to feel pretty good going into the 2018 season. He will undoubtedly have to beat out Tom Savage to win the backup job. Also, with the acquisition of J.T. Barrett, it’s likely to be a battle for that backup position. Nevertheless, Hill has the coaches’ eyes and some experience being with the team for a solid year.

The fact that the Saints didn’t select a quarterback, has to instill some confidence in Hill. Surely, Who Dat Nation was salivating in round one, when the Saints traded up to move to the 14th overall pick. The thought was that the Saints were going to pick a quarterback. That’s the usual scenario when a team moves up and gives up a couple of draft picks.

Never say never, but it could be tough for the New Orleans Saints to rationalize some big moves in 2025 free agency. Between needing a new head coach and the salary cap costs of past decisions, they might be better served sitting out another spending cycle to get their books in order.

But that doesn’t mean they won’t sign any new faces. And if they do go after a blue-chip player in free agency, Kristopher Knox of Bleacher Report has a great fit in mind. Knox argues San Francisco 49ers safety Talanoa Hufanga could be just what the Saints defense has been missing:

Injuries have limited...

The main storyline when the New Orleans Saints take on the Cleveland Browns is the return of Jameis Winston to New Orleans. The biggest matchup, however, will be Taliese Fuaga versus Myles Garrett. Derek Carr will thank him if Fuaga is able to rise to the occasion.

This is the most difficult challenge Fuaga has had to face in his rookie season so far. Garrett is the reigning, defending Defensive Player of the Year and has made 1st team All-Pro three times. Simply put, Myles Garrett is in on the short list of best pass rushers in the NFL.

Fuaga faced another one of those players earlier...

Week 10 brought a lot of interesting outcomes in games, and in the NFC South, this was very much the case. Although this was not a division-defining week, there are a lot of different takeaways for each team that could be true for the future.

Regular Season record 3-7

Last week, the Carolina Panthers had a surprising win against their division rival, the New Orleans Saints. In this game, Bryce Young flashed his potential and showed some signs of being the number one pick in the draft. The hope for Carolina was for this to continue, and against the struggling New York Giants, the Panthers...

The Jameis Winston revenge game has lost some of its allure with the firing of Dennis Allen.

There are two types of “revenge games.” You have matchups like C.J. Gardner-Johnson returning to New Orleans. There was true animosity from the safety. Then, you have games that simply features a player facing his former team, and “revenge game” is used jokingly.

We thought Jameis Winston facing the New Orleans Saints as the Cleveland Browns’ starting quarterback would be a true revenge game. Without the presence of Allen, there’s nothing to get revenge for.

It was Allen who told Winston he...

Two former New Orleans Saints offensive coordinator candidates have already been fired by the teams that hired them this offseason, with the Chicago Bears jettisoning Shane Waldron not long after the Las Vegas Raiders moved on from Luke Getsy.

Klint Kubiak, who the Saints ultimately went with, must prove he shouldn’t join them. Getsy interviewed with New Orleans twice before accepting the Raiders job. Kubiak may have been hired by Dennis Allen but that doesn’t mean Darren Rizzi won’t let him go if the team doesn’t get results. Fortunately, that feels unlikely after the team revived itself...

On Sunday, we saw the New Orleans Saints get “Rizzed Up” to defeat the Atlanta Falcons in the Caesars Superdome. This was their first win since Week 2 and their first under interim head coach Darren Rizzi. It’s always great to defeat the Falcons but this game was one that got both the players and fans fired up, something we had not seen in New Orleans for a while now. All week there had been talk of changes that Rizzi made in meetings, the locker room and practice. Whatever took place, it definitely worked because the team had reignited a missing spark.

Let’s hope they can keep that fire...
