Sean Payton said that the wide receiver was among the “must” positions on his list poised for an upgrade to the New Orleans Saints’ otherwise stable roster, and in the third round, the team addressed it with a widely acclaimed pick.

Former Central Florida wide receiver Tre’Quan Smith was the Saints’ No. 91 overall selection, to be thrust into a rotation that many analysts believe is the best in the NFL. Coming from a successful collegiate program, Smith says he has a good grasp of what it takes to make it as a pro.

“I’m a team player first of all,” he said. “I do what’s best for the teams. I am a hard worker, whatever the team needs me to do, I’m willing to do it. I make sacrifice. And also when you get a player like me, you get a person who is a good ball hog, who goes after the ball when it’s in the air, 50/50 ball they are mine, and a hustler. I love to make plays for my other teammates. The game is just bigger than me. If you want to win, it’s a team sport, you (have) to be selfless.”

How’ this for a blast from the past? Philadelphia Eagles defensive coordinator Vic Fangio fielded questions from the media on Monday night at Super Bowl LIX media availability, and some of those queries came from an old friend. Fangio chopped it up with Bobby Hebert, who was making the rounds while working for WWL Radio.

Fangio’s big NFL break came as the New Orleans Saints’ linebackers coach from 1986 to 1994, where he worked with the legendary “Dome Patrol” defense: Pro Football Hall of Famers Rickey Jackson and Sam Mills, plus their great teammates Vaughan Johnson and Pat Swilling...

It’s tough to talk about the state of the New Orleans Saints without mentioning their salary cap outlook. Years of short-term gambles and ill-advised investments have caught up with them, and now they’re in the hole by as much as $70 million — depending on where you check, that number could be closer to $54 million. We’ll know for sure once the NFL announces this year’s spending limit in a few weeks.

The New Orleans Saints have yet to finalize a deal with Kellen Moore to be the next head coach, but the only impediment is waiting for Moore’s season to be over.

That would mean the Saints would pass over Darren Rizzi and no interim coaches will be retained.

The Saints, New York Jets and Chicago Bears all fired their coach midseason and went outside of the building for their newest head coach.

Bleacher Report’s Maurice Moton called interim head coaches one of the coaching cycle’s biggest losers. He believes Antonio Pierce’s quick departure from the Las Vegas Raiders could have played a...

The New Orleans Saints have desperately needed an influx of talent along the defensive line for a few seasons now, and despite their attempts to fix that through the draft vis-à-vis the selections of Payton Turner and Isaiah Foskey, it has not panned out how they expected.

In the 2024 offseason, they tried at a different method of adding talent, signing defensive end Chase Young to a one-year deal. With him coming off a neck injury and requiring surgery to get back to where he needed to be, the Saints took the shot on him with a short contract.

With the 2025 offseason nearly upon us, we...

Rebuilds typically lead to an exodus of veteran players as the team gets younger. As the New Orleans Saints begin their rebuild, reload or whatever they want to call it, they too will get younger.

Bleacher Report’s Gary Davenport saw two Saints veterans as bargaining chips. He cooked up six trades that could reshape the league, and New Orleans was involved with two of them. Davenport had the Saints sending two players to the AFC North: Derek Carr to the Pittsburgh Steelers and Tyrann Mathieu to the Baltimore Ravens.

Carr to the Steelers would probably make the fans in black and yellow...
