While not likely, here are the 3 possible players the Saints may look to franchise tag.

The NFL salary cap is set for this year, as is the specific contract figures for franchise tags and transition tags. It should come as no surprise that the New Orleans Saints are not expected to use either this season.

The 2025 salary cap will be $279.2 million per team, an increase of over $24 million from last season. This certainly helps the Saints, who must still re-work contracts and probably release some veterans just to get under the salary cap.

Does this mean that New Orleans will not sign any free agents? No, and if you believe that then you simply have not paid attention to this team or their ability to create cap space. However, it does mean that the Saints are going to be much more conscious with their spending.

New Orleans may make a run at re-signing at couple of their own mid-tier free agents like WR Marquez Valdes-Scantling, S Will Harris, DE Tanoh Kpassagnon, or CB Shemar Jean-Charles. There are also three significant free agents for New Orleans whose situations bear watching. ...

The interview process is vital to understanding how these prospects think and if they can make it in the NFL. The New Orleans Saints will do their due diligence throughout the combine week, and although the team has hinted at Derek Carr being the starter in 2025, QB still needs to be looked at going into the draft. One of these quarterbacks the team could target, Miami's Cam Ward, is considered the far and away top QB in the draft. Per Nick Underhill of NewOrleans.football, the New Orleans Saints had a formal meeting with Colorado quarterback Shedeur Sanders.

Sanders, son of Hall of Fame cornerback Deion Sanders, is one of the top QB prospects of this draft cycle. In the past two seasons at Colorado, he has amassed 7,362 passing yards, 64 touchdowns, and 13 interceptions. The best game for Sanders would come in 2023, in a game against the Colorado State Rams, where he completed 38/47 passes for 347 yards, four touchdowns, and one interception.
