Tyrann Mathieu and the New Orleans Saints entered last season as the favorites to win the NFC South, and they ended up missing the playoffs entirely.

The Saints didn’t miss the postseason by much, either.

New Orleans finished 9-8 on the year, tied with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers for the best record in the division. However, the Buccaneers captured the NFC South crown by way of the tiebreaker, and the Saints were left sitting home.

That’s why Mathieu isn’t paying attention to any expectations for New Orleans going into 2024.

“Our motto this year is to keep our head down and work,” Mathieu said during a recent appearance on the Ross Tucker Football Podcast. “Don’t even cater or give in to expectations, if there are any. … We don’t even need anybody to talk about us. We just need to work hard.”

Mathieu added that all the Saints needed to do the last couple of years was steal a couple of games here or there, and they would have been a playoff team. ...

How do the Saints compare with the NFC South

It’s been a few weeks since the NFL held its annual draft. How has the NFC South shaped up, and where are the Saints on the totem pole?

I say that they’re right at the top, with the Atlanta Falcons not that far behind. Then it’s the Buccaneers and the Panthers at the bottom. The Saints only improved on areas of need in April but have also made some key free agent signings that put them over the top of the division. Additions like Tailese Fuaga and Chase Young are prime examples of this.

On the first day of the NFL Draft, the Saints selected Tailese Fuaga, an offensive tackle out of...

Saints positions of need after the NFL Draft

Going into the NFL Draft, the New Orleans Saints had many holes that needed to be filled. They had a very good draft and were able to fix important parts of the team, but now that the roster is taking shape, there is still more work to be done.

Although this is not the flashiest position, it is the most glaring need on the Saints roster. Left Guard is a position on the team that does not have a shoo-in starter. As of now, the Saints are putting their faith in 2023 draftee Nick Saldiveri. The Saints have signed three left guards out of free agency and two more out of undrafted free agency...

After picking up a quarterback and offensive linemen in the NFL Draft, the New Orleans Saints released veterans at those positions to make room on the roster.

Between injuries and the departure of Michael Thomas, it’s safe to say the offseason hasn’t been quiet for the Saints QB.

Perry, the sixth round pick with a third round draft grade, had a strong end to 2023! Can he take the next step and fill the gap in the receiving corps?

Former New Orleans Saints safety Steve Gleason will be holding a book signing tonight to promote his new memoir, A Life Impossible at Octavia Books in New Orleans starting at 6 pm. Gleason will be joined NOLA.com reporter Jeff Duncan, who also co-wrote the book.

B/R writer predicts Spencer Rattler will outplay his draft status

The NFL draft is largely a guessing game, and every year we see players outperform their draft status. And Bleacher Report’s Alex Kay picked six rookies who could do just that. Rather than focus on the players who were drafted too early, Kay chose to highlight on the positive impact of some of those reaches. One team’s reach led to another team getting a bargain as highly-regarded prospects fell down the board.

One of the New Orleans Saints’ fifth-round selections, former South Carolina quarterback Spencer Rattler, was the latest draft pick to make Bleacher Report’s list. Kay’s statement...

There might not be much of a fan presence at New Orleans Saints training camp this summer. With construction on a new team cafeteria occupying the Ochsner Performance Center, the Saints have announced they are moving their 2024 training camp from Metairie, La. to Irvine, Calif. The move will bring a change of pace for the Saints and an escape from the heat. But due to a little-known league rule, the move may also result in an escape from fans.

According to the MMQB’s Albert Breer, there is a league rule that prevents visiting team from hosting fan events in competing markets. That...

The New Orleans Saints have waived both QB Kellen Mond and OL Tommy Kraemer, according to a report from Field Yates.

The news comes after the Saints added depth via the NFL Draft to both position groups, so it isn’t a shock to see that New Orleans has moved on.

Mond has bounced around in the early portion of his NFL career, spending time with the Minnesota Vikings and Indianapolis Colts since being drafted in 2021.

With the selection of Spencer Rattler, the Saints now have Derek Carr, Jake Haener, Nathan Peterman, Spencer Rattler, and Taysom Hill in the quarterback room.

Kraemer has...

Saints let go of quarterback as rookie camp nears

METAIRIE, La. — The New Orleans Saints have trimmed their heavy quarterback roster Wednesday by moving from offseason signee Kellen Mond.

The drafting of Spencer Rattler along with the presence of veteran Nathan Peterman and 2023 draft pick Jake Haener, all to back up starter Derek Carr, made the move necessary.

Mond, who played college ball at Texas A&M, hasn't played in the NFL since 2021 when he threw three passes and completed two for five yards. The Saints signed him a month ago to give the team some depth in training camp and during offseason workouts, but the unexpected signing of...

Saints waive backup quarterback Kellen Mond before rookie minicamp

And then there were four. ESPN’s Field Yates first reported that the New Orleans Saints have waived backup quarterback Kellen Mond, just a few days before the start of rookie minicamp. The Saints were overcrowded at quarterback between Derek Carr, Jake Haener, Nathan Peterman, Mond, and this year’s fifth-round draft pick Spencer Rattler. Someone was going to go.

As we expected, Mond was the first to go. He was also the latest to sign, having arrived in New Orleans just before the 2024 NFL draft (and a month after Peterman). So Peterman will have to make his case for a spot on the Saints...
