Landing spots for the top 5 remaining NFL free agents in 2022

By Sayre Bedinger

Even though the 2022 NFL Draft is behind us, there are still quite a few prominent NFL Free Agents available, seemingly more than in a typical year. With so many big names still available, we could have another wave — even if it’s a slow-moving wave — of NFL Free Agency in the typically slow-going post-draft timeframe. We’ve already seen some moves happening around the league since the 2022 NFL Draft concluded, so let’s predict where five of the top remaining NFL free agents will land this season, starting with a superstar receiver.

Prediction: Signs with the New Orleans Saints

The New Orleans Saints are not messing around.

After the 2022 NFL Draft, it really feels like the Saints have re-established themselves as contenders in the NFC if nothing else for a Wild Card playoff spot.

After drafting Chris Olave and Trevor Penning to boost the offense early on in the 2022 Draft, the Saints made a huge splash after the Draft by signing veteran safety Tyrann Mathieu to a three-year deal.

The deal to sign Mathieu wasn’t just to get a hometown player back in Louisiana. The Saints are making a push and they’ve got to surround Jameis Winston with the best supporting cast possible. ...

Another domino has dropped for the New Orleans Saints and their head coaching search, with former Dallas Cowboys coach Mike McCarthy backing out of the 2025 coaching cycle to focus on 2026 instead. A major domino fell in the New Orleans Saints head coach search on Tuesday evening, when former Dallas Cowboys and Green Bay Packers coach Mike McCarthy chose to pull himself out of the sweepstakes. NFL Network’s Mike Garafolo and Ian Rapaport share that McCarthy will instead sit out the 2025 season, and focus on a return to coaching in 2026.

This is big news for the Saints, who flew cross-country to sit down with Philadelphia Eagles offensive coordinator Kellen Moore after previously meeting in person with several other candidates. McCarthy was the last name on their current list but...

The New Orleans Saints are the last team with a head coach opening in the NFL, so now they can really sit back and be patient before making their decision.

They have continued to interview and meet with coaches for the last few weeks and it seems to be down to a few top candidates. One person still in the mix is current New York Giants offensive coordinator Mike Kafka.

Kafka is currently coaching at the Senior Bowl, with the rest of the NFL world watching, and got a chance to speak with the media about his thoughts on his interviews with the Saints.

“It was a great experience. Really...

The New Orleans Saints flew out to Philadelphia to meet with Philadelphia Eagles offensive coordinator, Kellen Moore. The aggressiveness of this move suggests he is the Saints main target, but don’t count out Miami Dolphins defensive coordinator, Anthony Weaver.

ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler reports Weaver “has come up often as a candidate that’s made a strong impression.”

Of the names who have interviewed, Moore, Weaver, Mike Kafka and Darren Rizzi, Fowler’s report could suggest Weaver has an advantage over most of the candidates. Weaver has been the recipient of positive endorsements

The New Orleans Saints had a ton of interest in bringing in Aaron Glenn to be their next head coach. While he did meet with the team, it appears that the interest may not have been entirely mutual.

Seeing as though Glenn chose the New York Jets at his first chance, it is clear that they were his top choice. In his introductory press conference, though, it appears that they were the only team he really considered:

Glenn played for both teams, but did spend much longer in New York during his playing career. He was just most recently with the Saints, so there was some hope that he would...

The New Orleans Saints are down another head coaching candidate in their search for someone to run their team. This time it is Washington Commanders offensive coordinator Kliff Kingsbury, who will be staying in Washington, as reported by FOX Sports’ Jordan Schultz.

This narrows the Saints’ search down to just five candidates, who are Kellen Moore, Mike McCarthy, Anthony Weaver, Mike Kafka, and Darren Rizzi. They recently went to Philadelphia to complete their in-person interview with Moore, and are expected to interview McCarthy later in the week as well.

Ultimately it seemed as if...

Miami Dolphins safety Jevon Holland discussed a wide variety of topics on the “Breakin’ House Rules” podcast hosted by NFL Network’s Cameron Wolfe, but his commentary on Anthony Weaver stood out. The Dolphins defensive coordinator New Orleans Saints fans is a finalist in the team’s head coaching search, and few know him better than his own star players.

Holland had exceptionally high praise for Weaver, and even went as far as to call him “galvanizing,” saying a move to head coach would bring the best out of him. He was asked what he would say to people who are asking how Weaver would be...
