The absence of Mark Ingram through the first four New Orleans Saints games will not give Alvin Kamara an increased workload.

Saints coach Sean Payton said Saturday (May 12) the team planned to work with running backs currently on the roster to fill the void left by Ingram's suspension for violating the league policy on performance enhancing drugs. While doing that, the team will not ask for more from Kamara.

"The mistake would be that Alvin gets 15 more carries," Payton said after a morning practice during the three-day rookie minicamp that concludes Sunday. "That's not the direction we would expect to go. I don't think that's wise."

ESPN ranks every NFL team (including the Saints) by their tight ends

It’s safe to say we didn’t see enough from the New Orleans Saints’ tight ends last year. Jimmy Graham scored as many touchdown catches as Juwan Johnson on 52 fewer targets, and Foster Moreau was miscast as a run-blocking specialist. But Taysom Hill’s presence and part-time role at the position helps raise the group’s profile.

Now Johnson is expected to miss the summer recovering from offseason foot surgery. And there are some interesting backups competing for snaps in New Orleans like rookie free agent Dallin Holker and journeymen Tommy Hudson, Michael Jacobson, and Jesper Horsted. Graham has left the door open for a return, too.

Bryan Bresee had a strong rookie year rushing the quarterback and Nathan Shepherd was a solid starter for the New Orleans Saints, but their interior defensive line still leaves a lot to be desired.

That’s reflected in the positional rankings from

All 32 teams (including the Saints) ranked by their safeties

Are the New Orleans Saints really set at safety? Tyrann Mathieu is a known commodity, but neither Johnathan Abram nor Jordan Howden have inspired a ton of confidence. They both had some nice moments in 2023 but it’s tough to buy them as Marcus Maye’s full-time replacement. Howden is only entering his second year in the league and Abram hasn’t been able to hold down a starting gig since 2021. J.T. Gray is in the mix but he figures to continue playing a key role on special teams rather than expanding his skill set on defense.

Those questions are reflected in the safety rankings of

B/R says Willie Gay Jr. and Spencer Rattler are overlooked additions

Bleacher Report’s Kristopher Knox highlighted New Orleans Saints acquisitions Willie Gay Jr. and Spencer Rattler as overlooked additions from this offseason. Knox’s list was split nearly evenly in half between free agents and draft picks for each team, and those two pickups stood out for the Saints.

The Spencer Rattler hype train has been one of the more interesting developments after the NFL draft. Saints fans’ frustration with the offensive ineptitude from a year ago mixed with Rattler’s potential has made him an instant fan favorite. Heightened expectations don’t stop with fans...

PFF ranks Demario Davis and Willie Gay Jr. as a top-10 linebacker unit

The New Orleans Saints linebacker corps is led by Demario Davis. The Saints have primarily run 2 linebacker sets, and who will line up beside him is the unknown. Willie Gay Jr. or Pete Werner. Pro Football Focus predicted the latter as they rank the Saints linebacker unit as the ninth-best in pro football.

This could be because Davis is just that good. Will it be Werner or Gay? Who knows, but Demario Davis is the pillar of consistency. Davis gives the linebacker corps has a high floor, as long as he sustains his level of play, and his running mate will decide the ceiling. Here’s why PFF’s...

ESPN ranks all 32 NFL rosters (including Saints) ahead of 2024 season

There’s a lot of skepticism surrounding the New Orleans Saints. Derek Carr didn’t play well enough last season to elevate the talent around him, and now the question has turned to asking whether he has enough difference-makers to prop him up while Klint Kubiak installs a new offense for the black and gold. Defensively, the Saints are still in good shape, but depth is a big concern after a couple of misfires in the NFL draft eroded their reserves. They’re asking a lot of aging defenders like Cameron Jordan, Demario Davis, and Tyrann Mathieu. And the team’s biggest vulnerability is its offensive line, which looks like a shadow of its former self after rotating through several high draft picks and coaching changese.

But that’s not to say the Saints can’t compete. They’re strong in the secondary, and they have enough experienced starters to stand tall against the game’s most intimidating rosters. There are plenty of teams that can’t say that. At least one of them plays in New Orleans’ own division.

ESPN’s Mike Clay, Aaron Schatz, and Seth Walder ranked all 32 NFL rosters from best to worst ahead of the 2024 season. The Saints are clustered together with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, who won the NFC South last year with the same 9-8 record, as well as the upstart Atlanta Falcons (all of whose problems won’t be solved by Kirk Cousins). The Carolina Panthers are a bit further back, while trotting out their third coaching staff in as many years.

So where do the Saints (and their NFC South rivals) rank among their peers? Here’s a look at ESPN’s rankings and projected starting lineups:

Reggie Bush's 71-yard punt return touchdown is the Saints Play of the Day

It’s often been said that Reggie Bush joined the New Orleans Saints a generation too early. The college football superstar had an inconsistent pro career in black and gold, experiencing terrific highs and frustrating lows as Sean Payton’s coaching staff struggled to figure out how to use him. The role Bush pioneered in New Orleans was later developed by Darren Sproles and perfected by Alvin Kamara, and it’s fair to wonder how things might have gone had he enjoyed the benefits of a more experienced play caller.

But he was always dangerous on special teams. Bush scored four punt return...

There are 71 days to go until the New Orleans Saints open their 2024 season with the Carolina Panthers, which means the current owner of the No. 71 jersey is our Saints Player of the Day. But have we already seen the last of Ryan Ramczyk?

Let’s look back at Ramczyk’s career thus far, his current situation, and what could be ahead for him:

Ramczyk was everything the Saints hoped he would be when they drafted him. He’s repeatedly won Pro Bowl and All-Pro attention through his career while playing at a high level, and for most of his time with the Saints he rarely missed a snap. It’s just a...

71 days until Saints' season opener: Every player to wear No. 71

We’ve got 71 days to go until the New Orleans Saints open their 2024 regular season against the Carolina Panthers, so we’re counting down the days by looking back on every player to wear the corresponding jersey number for the black and gold.

Ryan Ramczyk is the best player to ever put it on for New Orleans, but it remains to be seen whether we’ve seen the last of him. A degenerative knee condition is threatening to cut his career short. If he’s already played his last down he’ll have a strong resume to lean on — Ramczyk’s accomplishments include three spots on the All-Pro team and recognition on the PFWA All-Rookie Team in 2017. That’s plenty to be proud of.

Here is the entire list of Saints players to wear No. 71,

The Baltimore Ravens have signed former New Orleans Saints wide receiver Keith Kirkwood, the team announced Friday, reuniting him with several of his old teammates — including wide receiver Deonte Harty. Defensive backs Tre Swilling, Arthur Maulet, and Marcus Williams are also in Baltimore these days.

Kirkwood, 29, entered the NFL as an undrafted free agent the Saints signed out of Temple back in 2018. He’s appeared in 31 career games while catching 24 passes for 294 yards and 3 touchdowns. That time has been spent entirely with the Saints outside a two-year stop with the Carolina...

Saints cornerbacks highlighted for their sticky coverage by PFF

New Orleans Saints lead cornerback Marshon Lattimore and his former teammate Isaac Yiadom received recognition from Pro Football Focus for their tight coverage in 2023. PFF’s Jim Wyman highlighted the 10 best cornerbacks in these three categories: tight coverage, step of separation, and open targets.

Yiadom was the only cornerback in the NFL to place top-10 in each category. It’s no surprise he left New Orleans for a higher-ceiling opportunity with the San Francisco 49ers. His best finish came in open target percentage. He was the sixth-best cornerback, allowing an open target only 28.3%...

A.T. Perry picked as a potential breakout candidate for 2024

All eyes are on Rashid Shaheed as a possible breakout candidate for the New Orleans Saints in 2024, even if his performance last season arguably meets the criteria. Shaheed finished with 46 receptions for 719 yards, scoring 5 touchdown catches. He also chipped in 339 punt return yards while picking up 384 return yards on kickoffs.

And while we’re all excited to see what Shaheed can do with Klint Kubiak calling plays (he was our pick for the Saints’ potential breakout), Pro Football Network’s Tony Catalina reminds us not to overlook another Saints wideout: A.T. Perry. Last year’s...
