Darren Sproles has been preparing for the upcoming season with help from some notable former teammates.

The former Philadelphia Eagles running back recently shared videos on Instagram that showed him working out with New Orleans Saints quarterback Drew Brees and Chicago Bears backup Chase Daniel.

The videos, which were originally posted on Tuesday by San Diego-based strength and conditioning coach Todd Durkin, show Sproles, 36, catching passes from Brees and Daniel. Another shared video featured Eagles running back Donnel Pumphrey’s Instagram handle. Pumphrey shared the video on his own Instagram page. ...

Now this is interesting. New York Giants offensive coordinator Mike Kafka is a candidate for the New Orleans Saints head coaching job, and he’s begun putting feelers out for his potential staff. ESPN’s Giants beat writer Jordan Raanan shares that former Giants defensive coordinator Wink Martindale is widely expected to join Kafka in New Orleans with the same role in mind, should he get the job.

Martindale spent the last year on the Michigan Wolverines coaching up top-10 draft prospects like defensive tackle Mason Graham and cornerback Will Johnson. He’s got a lot of experience calling...

The New Orleans Saints front office is now down an advisor as Dave Ziegler was hired away by the Tennessee Titans to become their new assistant GM, per the MMQB’s Albert Breer. Ziegler had been heavily involved in the team’s head coach search and sat in on multiple interviews with candidates alongside general manager Mickey Loomis and top lieutenants Jeff Ireland, Khai Harley, and Michael Parenton along with another advisor in Randy Mueller.

Loomis spoke about the roles Ziegler and Mueller have had earlier this month, via the Times-Picayune | Advocate’s Rod Walker: “They are talented...

The conference championship round of the NFL playoffs is upon us, and with that, many New Orleans Saints fans will remember their last trip to this stage back in 2019. We all remember the NOLA No-Call, where Bill Vinovich and crew left the Saints out to dry on a missed defensive pass interference penalty, and ultimately led to their loss in that game.

So, where are they now? This “all-star” crew the NFL put together for the playoffs is largely still active. How many Saints games have they called after this incident, and where are they now when it comes to their officiating careers? Let’s take a look:

It doesn't sound like the Saints are about to reset their salary cap spending

Given the New Orleans Saints’ lack of success in recruiting head coach candidates, a lot of fingers have been pointed at what makes their job opening so undesirable. Maybe Aaron Glenn and Joe Brady didn’t want to come here because of the state of the roster, or the salary cap situation, or having a mediocre quarterback locked in for the foreseeable future — or maybe it’s because Mickey Loomis isn’t seen as a good boss. Maybe it’s a combination of those variables.

Not many of those variables can be changed. But the biggest (or at least the loudest, and most persistent) criticism of how the...

Report: Saints may fly out to meet with head coach candidate in person

It’s been a tough week in the New Orleans Saints head coach search. Two of the team’s top targets, Aaron Glenn and Joe Brady, chose to pursue other opportunities and declined in-person interviews with general manager Mickey Loomis after working down the hall from him just a few years ago. All six of the other head coaching vacancies have been filled. If the Saints could get out of their own way they could have their pick of the candidates still available, but guys like Brady clearly don’t view them as an attractive destination.

Still, time is of the essence. Whoever does get hired as head...

Former Saints HC Dennis Allen expected to get hired as Bears DC

The New Orleans Saints moved on from Dennis Allen part way through last season and it does not look like it will take long for him to find a new job in the NFL.

The Chicago Tribune’s Brad Biggs recently shared that multiple sources told him Allen will soon become the defensive coordinator of the Chicago Bears. He held that same role for the Saints from 2015 to 2021 and excelled at it. While his time as the head coach in New Orleans did not go well (his record improved to just 26-53 after going 8-28 with the Raiders), it was not his defensive capabilities that got him fired.

The Bears are...

Former New Orleans Saints quarterback J.T. Barrett will be joining the Chicago Bears as their new quarterbacks coach, as reported by the Chicago Tribune’s Brad Biggs. Barrett was a part of the Saints for parts of the 2018 and 2019 seasons, with 23 transactions in 2018 alone between being waived, signed, and elevated. He had been working as the Detroit Lions assistant quarterbacks coach.

Barrett, whose NFL career started as an undrafted rookie out of Ohio State, was as a backup for Drew Brees and turned to coaching after his last football season in the CFL. He joined another former Saints...

PFF argues Saints 'can't afford to lose' this free agent in 2025 offseason

The New Orleans Saints gave Chase Young a one-year prove-it deal in an attempt to amend their pass rush needs last offseason. While the group still wasn’t great, it wasn’t all Young’s fault either.

Pro Football Focus analyst Dalton Wasserman recently worked through each NFL team to find the one free agent that they ‘can’t afford to lose’ this offseason and he actually listed Young as the candidate for the Saints. This is what Wasserman had to say about his choice:

Losing Young would have the depth chart looking like this on the exterior of the defensive line: Carl Granderson, Cameron...

ESPN suggests Saints may need to change their approach to the 2025 NFL draft

The New Orleans Saints have a long, long list of needs heading into the offseason and do not have the luxury of targeting one specific part of the roster.

When looking across the top 10 picks of the 2025 NFL draft, ESPN’s Katherine Terrell suggested the team just worry about taking the best player available in the first round. This is part of what Terrell had to say about her reasoning:

As alluded to, that really doesn’t narrow much down. Rather than worrying about ranking those needs, the decision certainly should just revolve around who is on the board when they come up to pick...

Zack Baun and Trey Hendrickson aren’t the only former members of the New Orleans Saints who are finalists for an Associated Press award. Former head coach Sean Payton, now with the Denver Broncos, is a finalist for Coach of the Year. He previously won this award with the Saints in 2006.

Payton led the Broncos to the playoffs in second year with the team. It was Denver’s first playoff berth since their 2015 Super Bowl victory.

Though it was only a two game improvement from Year 1, Payton and the Broncos still over achieved. Russell Wilson’s play was shaky in 2023, but the move to rookie...

Where the Saints should turn after missing out on Joe Brady

I will start this article out by stating that I personally do not dislike any of the candidates the Saints are looking at, and while I have preferences toward who may be the better or worse candidates, there is not one in particular that doesn’t have a reason to become a head coach. That said, the New Orleans Saints are now down another candidate, as Buffalo Bills offensive coordinator Joe Brady has chosen to stick with his current team rather than pursue the Saints head coaching gig.

This leaves the Saints with six viable head coaching candidates: Anthony Weaver, Mike McCarthy, Kellen...

The New Orleans Saints received some unfortunate news on Saturday afternoon as top head coach candidate Joe Brady pulled himself out of consideration for the job.

NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport broke the news on Saturday afternoon that the Buffalo Bills offensive coordinator would be sticking with his team for next season.

The Saints had interviewed him once already and wanted to set up a second one, but will not get their wish. Brady had been the top fan-favorite candidate in the search given his history with the team and Louisiana (he got his first big break on Sean Payton’s staff, and...
