TRACEY JAGNEAUX

NEW ORLEANS -- No question that after last year’s bountiful draft for the New Orleans Saints, the 2018 version of let’s take a chance would be scrutinized in a way that no other draft would be.

No matter who the Saints chose this year, the comparison to 2017 would be made, even though none of the players selected starting last Thursday had even taken a snap in the NFL.

So, how did the Saints do in this year’s installment? That all depends on who you ask. The range of grades looks like the report card of a seventh grader going through the change to adulthood: it is all over the map.
ESPN gave the Saints a C+, putting New Orleans just above average.

Bleacher Report, without providing any explanation with its rankings, gave the Saints a D, the lowest in the league along with Oakland and Seattle.
Yahoo and USA Today agreed with Bleacher Report and also rated the New Orleans draft as being D worthy. However, both NFL.com and CBS Sports had the Saints with a grade of B.

The biggest move of the draft for New Orleans came very early. The Saints made a bold move in the first round Thursday, trading next year’s first-rounder to move up and take Texas-San Antonio defensive end Marcus Davenport, a player who filled a need for a pressure player at the right defensive end spot the Saints have been trying to fill long-term for years.

In light of Kubiak’s departure, attention now shifts to Philadelphia Eagles OC Kellen Moore, whom the Saints are set to fly out to as early as Monday to interview for their vacant head coach position.

It didn’t take Dennis Allen long to find a new home. After being fired as head coach of New Orleans Saints midseason, the highly-respected defensive mind has landed with the Chicago Bears as their new defensive coordinator.

Allen will be manning the defensive side of the ball under new head coach Ben Johnson, formerly the Detroit Lions offensive coordinator. Allen will be taking over a defense that ranked 27th in the league in yards allowed, and 13th in points allowed. It’s a unit composed of mostly young talent who are looking to make a big jump next season.

With the Washington Commanders falling to the Philadelphia Eagles in the NFC title game, the New Orleans Saints’ 2025 NFL draft slots for their current picks are nearly finalized.

The team had been awaiting the conclusion of the Commanders’ season for a while due to the amount of draft capital they received from the Marshon Lattimore trade. To take us back to the trade, the team received third-, fourth-, and sixth-round selections in exchange for their fifth rounder and Lattimore.

Because of Washington’s loss, the team is now scheduled to select at pick No. 93 (third) and 129 (fourth)...

It has not been a banner year for New Orleans sports, to put it lightly. Both the Saints and Pelicans have had seasons to forget, which has left the city in some unfortunate company.

The Times-Picayune | Advocate’s Rod Walker shared an unfavorable statistic on Sunday, which stated that New Orleans is tied with Charlotte for the fewest combined wins between NFL and NBA teams for a single city with just 17 so far; 5 wins each from the Saints and Carolina Panthers, with a dozen wins from both the Pelicans and Hornets.

The Saints were able to muster just five wins this year and are sitting...

It already seemed exceedingly likely, but the New Orleans Saints will officially need a new offensive coordinator next season.

The Seattle Seahawks are hiring Klint Kubiak to be their OC for next season, per NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport. After just one year with the Saints, Kubiak will be heading to a new team, before New Orleans even hired their new head coach. Kubiak was hired by Dennis Allen and was effectively going to leave the day Allen was let go. Whoever replaces Allen will want their own offense (and offensive coordinator) in place.

The Saints had hired Kubiak ahead of last season...

Former New Orleans Saints star cornerback Marshon Lattimore, now with the Washington Commanders, has always been known to get fiery with opposing wide receivers.

He seems to have found a new rival, getting into a scuffle with Philadelphia Eagles wide receiver A.J. Brown as the two teams face off in the NFC Championship. It happened during an Eagles “Tush Push,” as well, a play that they were largely uninvolved with. Technically it was a blocking play for Brown, but they are outside of the pile.

Lattimore is always fiesty, but is also clearly frustrated with his struggles this season...
