Nick Saban had somewhere to be, but golf partner Mark Ingram wasn’t having it.

Saban was recounting when he and Ingram finished second to Georgia Tech pair Paul Johnson and Jon Berry in the 2015 Chick-fil-A Peach Bowl Challenge at Reynolds Lake Oconee Resort outside Atlanta.

“We were in the playoff with Georgia Tech to win on about the fifth extra hole,” Saban said. “I said, ‘Mark, this is my last hole. I have to go speak.’ There are whole load of people at the plane and they’re all calling every five minutes saying, ‘We’ve got a 1,000 people you got to speak to tonight. We’re going to be late.’”

Does Chase Daniel have an inside track on the New Orleans Saints head coach search? The longtime NFL backup has found success as a media analyst and commenter after hanging up his cleats, and Drew Brees’ old handshake partner shared his predictions for which candidates will take which jobs in this year’s cycle.

And he doesn’t have Aaron Glenn, Kellen Moore, Mike McCarthy or Kliff Kingsbury going to New Orleans. Instead of those A-listers, it’s New York Giants offensive coordinator Mike Kafka who Daniel sees wearing in black and gold.

Kafka is visiting the Saints this week for a second...

The New Orleans Saints have continued their head coaching search and now have another week of footage to review as they narrow down candidates.

While a decision doesn’t seem to be looming, a list of candidates has begun to take form. Unfortunately for the goal of hiring a coach, a handful of the top candidates are still in the playoffs. Some coaches strengthened their cases while others left fans with a bad taste in their mouths.

Here is how all of the Saints’ top head coaching candidates performed this weekend during the NFL playoff’s Divisional Round:

New Orleans Saints defensive assistant and former NFL safety Matt Giordano has been named to the East-West Shrine Bowl coaching staff for the 2025 event. He’ll be responsible for coaching the defensive backs on the East Team.

Giordano played out his college career at Fresno City College and California-Berkley, before he was ultimately selected by the Indianapolis Colts in the fourth round of the 2005 NFL draft.

Over his nine-year NFL career, he played four seasons for the Colts, one season for the Green Bay Packers, one season for the Saints, two seasons for the then-Oakland Raiders and...

When the 2025 NFL Draft comes around in April, what will the New Orleans Saints do? Here's a mock draft from one of our writers.

The long time offensive coordinator has been coveted in several coaching cycles, but has never found the right fit. The Saints are hoping they could be it.

The Black and Gold will meet with the New York Giants' offensive coordinator for a second time.

Yaccarino: Why the Saints need more draft picks and how they can make that happen

The New Orleans Saints roster is a concern going into the offseason. Almost every position needs to be upgraded, and the weak points of this roster are extremely weak. With the current cap space for the Saints, free agency will look like a few 1-year cheap deals that help make issues look a bit better. While these moves help fix the cap in the long run and the roster stay afloat, the NFL Draft is where the Saints can get answers. Overall, the 2025 NFL Draft is not the strongest in the 1st Round. This draft class will be remembered because of its depth. Day 2 will be massive for teams to...

We’ve got movement in the New Orleans Saints head coach search. NFL Network’s Tom Pelissero reports that New York Giants offensive coordinator and assistant head coach Mike Kafka is flying in to New Orleans for a second interview with the Saints, this time in person (per NFL rules).

So why are the Saints so high on a high-level assistant from one of the worst teams in the league? You have to look beyond the results of his Giants tenure to see why they’re so high on Andy Reid’s former quarterback coach.

Kafka quickly rose through the ranks on the Kansas City Chiefs and won a lot of...

The New Orleans Saints are coming off of their worst season in a long time and don’t have much going for them this offseason in looking to improve.

Pro Football Focus’ Tomo Riske recently put together a graph showing each team’s full assets entering this offseason. That is combining their draft capital, salary cap space and contract restructure potential.

When adding all of those things together, the Saints rank No. 30 out of 32 teams. The only two ranked below them would be the division-rival Atlanta Falcons and awkwardly-placed Seattle Seahawks, who don’t have much to build around or...

This is interesting. Mike Kafka isn’t the only candidate visiting the New Orleans Saints for a second head coach interview early this week — NFL Network’s Tom Pelissero reports that Miami Dolphins defensive coordinator Anthony Weaver will be in the city Wednesday for a sit-down with team brass.

Weaver has a strong resume. Before joining the Dolphins for 2024, he worked closely with John Harbaugh on the Baltimore Ravens from 2021 to 2023; his titles included defensive line coach, run game coordinator, and assistant head coach. And before that he coached under Bill O’Brien on the Houston...

The New Orleans Saints are moving into a new era this offseason with a multitude of changes that could bring both positives and negatives.

But one of the things happening off of the field is that Saints orthopedic surgeon Dr. Karim Meijer, who is regarded as of the top figures in his profession, is leaving the Saints.

And he is headed to the Denver Broncos, per a report from Sharif Ishaq of WDSU. There, he will rejoin the staff of former Saints head coach Sean Payton, who has attracted other New Orleans staffers in his tenure there. Longtime Saints athletic trainer Beau Lowery is also on...

Cameron Jordan calls Saints-Falcons rivalry 'the only one that matters'

Rivalries often form in the divisions purely off playing each other frequently, especially when both teams are good. Not all rivalries are created equal, however. For example, the Tampa Bay Buccaneers tried, and still try, to force a rivalry with the New Orleans Saints when Tom Brady came to town.

Admittedly, Brady versus Drew Brees and Marshon Lattimore versus Mike Evans felt like chapters for an exciting rivalry. However, there never felt like enough true animosity between the fanbases to call it a true rivalry.

Everyone knows the Atlanta Falcons are the Saints’ true rival. As Cameron...

While the top of the NFL world enjoys the postseason, the New Orleans Saints are among the group that already focusing on next year.

After the worst campaign in recent team history ended with a 5-12 record, they still draft all the way down at No. 9 thanks to the sheer amount of teams that struggled to win games this year. They have plenty of holes to fill so rather than focusing on one specific need, they can afford to go with whatever player they feel is best when they get on the clock.

Here is an updated look at a seven-round 2025 NFL mock draft with that mindset:

Just 4 teams have drafted fewer players than Saints since they hired Mickey Loomis

There are only four teams that have spent fewer selections in the NFL draft than the New Orleans Saints since they promoted Mickey Loomis to general manager back in 2003.

Those teams are the Minnesota Vikings (285), Los Angeles Chargers (282), Pittsburgh Steelers (268) and the league-low Green Bay Packers (267 players drafted), according to the data from Stathead and Pro Football Reference.

You could argue that the Saints have been successful despite owning so few draft picks through Loomis’ habit of trading them away. Over that same time period under Loomis, the Saints rank 10th-best in...
