Nobody is immune to the paralyzing depression that grips the New Orleans area if the Saints lose a big one.

Non-football fans who wake up the next morning without even knowing the score will soon sense the gloom. With the Eagles two touchdowns ahead in the first quarter Sunday, a really blue Monday threatened to engulf us all. Thank the Lord for whatever turned the tide.

The 2024 New Orleans Saints were finally put to rest in Sunday afternoon’s 27-19 defeat to the playoff-bound Tampa Bay Buccaneers, who clinched their fourth consecutive division title.

Almost exactly a year after tearing his ACL, this week’s breakout player took advantage of injuries in the linebacker room and put together the best performance of his young career. The breakout player from the Saints’ Week 18 loss to the Buccaneers is LB Nephi Sewell.

The 26-year-old posted 8 total tackles (5 solo, 2 TFLs), 2 stops, and his first career sack, while his 78.1 overall grade from Pro Football...

In a recurring theme toward the end of the season, the New Orleans Saints’ strong first-half performance fizzled out on Sunday afternoon. Their 2024 campaign concluded with a 27-19 loss to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, who clinched their fourth straight division title and a trip to the playoffs.

Let’s discuss an overreaction following the Saints’ season finale:

It’s surprising to see some fans completely disregard interim HC Darren Rizzi in this off-season’s interviewing process. While I understand the need for New Orleans to thoroughly evaluate outside candidates and still personally lean...

State of the NFC South: The dust settles on 2024

The New Orleans Saints season is mercifully over. It was a tumultuous season as the Saints find themselves at the bottom of the NFC South for the first time in a decade and a half.

The Saints fired Dennis Allen after a loss to the Carolina Panthers. It marks the first time had to replace a head coach in the middle of the season for the first time since 1996.

Injuries to Alvin Kamara, Chris Olave, Derek Carr, Erik McCoy, and Rashid Shaheed hampered the offense and made for a much less enjoyable product. How different would the win column look is unknown, but the product does look better with those players on the field.

New Orleans outscored their opponents by 62 points in the first two weeks. They finished the season being outscored by 60 points by their opponents. They say, “it’s not how you start. It’s how you finish.”

Well…

Here is where every team in the NFC South finished and key stats for all four teams:

What are the New Orleans Saints going to do in the 2025 NFL draft? Well, Dude, we just don’t know. We don’t know who the Saints are going to lose and recruit in free agency that shakes up their list of team needs. We don’t even know who will be calling prospects from the war room to tell them they’ve been drafted. The point is there’s a long offseason ahead of us.

But with that said, we can always guess. Given how the Saints ended their 2024 season and what’s likely ahead of them in 2025, we can make some reasonable assumptions about their general strategy in this year’s draft (or at least what we would do if we were sitting at the head of the table). With the 2025 offseason now in full swing, let’s ring it in with a seven-round Saints mock draft:

NEW ORLEANS — The most disappointing Saints season this century is over.

5-12.

My generation of New Orleanians has certainly seen worse. But it's been a long time.

If you like to take a Saints road trip, the choices next season are good.

Chicago, Nashville, and Buffalo are interesting, as long as it's not December.

And here's an interesting note: Only four of the Saints' 17 games next season will be against teams that made the playoffs this season.

Because New Orleans will play a fourth-place schedule.

That's right, the Saints officially finished last in the NFC South behind* the...

The New Orleans Saints announced Monday evening they have officially signed a total of nine players to the reserve/future contracts after the conclusion of the 2024 season. Each of them spent the year on the Saints practice squad, so they’ll return for a chance at competing for a roster spot over the summer.

The team finished at 5-12 overall following the 27-19 loss to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, which sent that team to the playoffs as the kings of the NFC South, pushing the Atlanta Falcons out of postseason contention entirely.

The Saints got those new deals in order as they prepare to head into a long offseason that will include coaching changes and more shakeups, all leading up to a very important 2025 NFL draft.

Here’s a look at each returning player on Monday’s list of transactions:
