With free agency and the draft completed, and OTAs and minicamps scheduled for the next month and a half, here's a closer look at the depth chart for the New Orleans Saints:

OFFENSE

Note: Starters in bold

Quarterback (3): Drew Brees, Taysom Hill, Tom Savage

The backup battle should be one of the more fascinating summer storylines after the Saints let veteran Chase Daniel go in free agency. Sean Payton is apparently so enamored with Hill's dual-threat potential that he told Fox (Sports) last year that Hill could be Brees' successor -- even though he didn't join the Saints until after he was cut by the Packers as an undrafted rookie last September.

Running back (6): Mark Ingram, Alvin Kamara, Trey Edmunds, Boston Scott, Jonathan Williams, Daniel Lasco

After the hiring of Ben Johnson to be head coach of the Chicago Bears, there was speculation going around that New Orleans Saints interim head coach Darren Rizzi was the target of interest to join Johnson’s new staff. However, that development has stalled out, as Rizzi works to make his case for the Saints head coaching job as we speak.

Rizzi is competing with some strong candidates for the Saints job, including Mike McCarthy, Joe Brady, Kellen Moore, Anthony Weaver, Mike Kafka, and maybe Kliff Kingsbury. While he does have the upper hand of being in the Saints system for years now and...

The New Orleans Saints had some former staffers/players hired around the league recently, with Aaron Glenn moving on to the New York Jets to become their head coach, and J.T. Barrett joining the Chicago Bears to be their quarterbacks coach. The Sean Payton tree continues to expand little by little each year as well:

Sean Payton reacted to the hiring of Glenn by the Jets as well shortly after the fact, stating on social media that the opportunity was “Much Deserved.” Glenn was also a prospective candidate for the Saints head coaching vacancy this offseason, however ultimately chose to go a...

Cameron Jordan salary: How much money did Saints DE make this season?

There have been a lot of New Orleans Saints franchise legends and mainstays make their ways out of town in the last few years, but at least one name has remained a constant: Cameron Jordan.

This past season was Jordan’s 14th season with the Saints and unfortunately, it was one of his weakest. It is understandable, given that he is 35, that some regression has started to hit. He played a career-low 48% of snaps last year and didn’t really make an impact until late in the season.

Jordan finished the year with 34 tackles, seven for a loss and four sacks. Though those numbers don’t jump off...

The New Orleans Saints have a lot of holes to address in the 2025 NFL draft and one of the biggest needs has been hard for them to scout in recent years: defensive end.

Sitting with the No. 9 overall spot in the draft, there are a couple of names that tend to pop up with some frequency. One such player is standout Georgia Bulldogs defensive end Mykel Williams. Should Mickey Loomis consider taking him and another shot at ending their woes at the position.

There is at least one thing that Loomis is sure to like about him, his size. Weighing in at 6-foot-5 and 265 pounds, that puts his in...

The New Orleans Saints’ preferred head coach, Aaron Glenn, chose his preferred destination, the New York Jets, and the Saints have pivoted to the rest of their list as expected.

Post-snowstorm New Orleans have interviews scheduled new dates for interviews with Mike Kafka, Mike McCarthy and Aaron Weaver. Wednesday night, NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport reported Joe Brady and Kellen Moore will join that list. That was another step that was easy to predict.

Things get interesting when Rapoport says there could be more coaches added to the list

Kliff Kingsbury was once on the Saints’ radar. He...

Final projection opens the door for Saints to get multiple 2025 comp picks

The New Orleans Saints have stocked up on a decent amount of NFL draft picks so far heading into the 2025 offseason. They currently sit on seven selection, with an additional compensatory pick likely to be added in the seventh round. That corresponds to the loss of cornerback Isaac Yiadom in free agency. The Saints won’t get compensation for losing linebacker Zack Baun to the Philadelphia Eagles after signing defensive end Chase Young.

However, they could potentially pick up another compensatory seventh-round pick (for defensive tackle Malcolm Roach going to the Denver Broncos) pending...

The New Orleans Saints tough 2024 season is thankfully over, and now they get to look ahead to bigger and better things like their head coach hiring process, the 2025 NFL draft, and working on signings/re-signings in the coming weeks once the playoffs wrap up. This is an intriguing offseason when it comes to bringing back players, as there are not a ton of quality Saints players hitting the market, but there are certainly a few, and then many good depth pieces behind that.

One of the most interesting ones will be wide receiver Marquez Valdes-Scantling, who signed with the Saints back in...

The Dallas Cowboys announced they hired Brian Schottenheimer as their head coach late Friday evening, meaning the New Orleans Saints are now the only team that remains looking for a head coach. They ended up playing the long game, and chose to wait out the other teams to get their choice of the remaining candidates. While this is a decision that could go either way, many of the candidates they did interview still remain which is a somewhat good sign.

The other six teams and their head coaching hires are as follows:

One positive is Liam Coen moving on from the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, as...

Anthony Weaver, the Miami Dolphins' defensive coordinator, was interviewed in person by the New Orleans Saints on Friday. This was the Saints first in-person interview of the head coaching cycle.

Weaver, 44, has only been with the Dolphins for one year; however, he has a total of 13 years of NFL coaching experience. He also spent seven seasons in the NFL as a defensive end (four in Baltimore and three in Houston).

Players describe Weaver as a passionate coach who cares for his players.

“You wanna go out and play for him; you wanna go out there and play well and perform and do the things...

B/R names Saints the worst offseason landing spot for their own former QB

The New Orleans Saints quarterback situation is all of a sudden up in the air with speculation on a Derek Carr trade starting to heat up. If that happens, the Saints would likely be in the market for a new veteran to guide their younger passers on the roster.

Bleacher Report’s Kristopher Knox recently suggested they avoid a reunion with a former quarterback, as they were named the worst landing spot for Andy Dalton this offseason. Here is what Knox had to say about his reasoning:

For reference, the best landing spot was with the Tennessee Titans. That is a spot that he could get a...
