Saints have rebuilt depth, which means familiar names might end up playing elsewhere

The Saints haven’t been much of a feeder system for the rest of the league.

For a while, after the Saints became trapped in a buffering loop of 7-9 finishes, the roster was top heavy and without the kind of quality depth needed to succeed and endure injuries. Defensive coordinator Dennis Allen often calls the NFL a “backup league.” Well, when New Orleans needed one, it often turned to the street or waiver wire to see what was out there, or it churned the bottom of the roster.

There are better measures of success, like an 11-5 record and a playoff win, but it is interesting to evaluate the roster moves of the past few seasons and see which Saints eventually got picked up and had success with other teams. From 2014-2016, a high percentage of those cut by the Saints never again played a meaningful role in the NFL.

Jahri Evans is a busy man. The New Orleans Saints assistant offensive line coach is working at the Senior Bowl this week, and next week he’ll learn whether or not he’s going into the Pro Football Hall of Fame. Beyond that, he’ll have to see if the new Saints coaching staff has room for him. Evans was asked about the upcoming changes and the ongoing search for a head coach, which caught him by surprise.

“Oh, wow I wasn’t expecting that,” Evans told reporters after Senior Bowl practice on Tuesday. “Honestly, I wasn’t even thinking about it, y’know I’m here trying to do as much as I can for...

Josaiah Stewart, an edge defender out of Michigan, is a prospect on the rise. With the Senior Bowl approaching, the New Orleans Saints should give the kid a good look.

Standing at 6’1’’ and weighing 245 lbs., Stewart has shown a surprising amount of versatility. This tweet from NFL analyst Ryan Fowler shows some of that off:

Before transferring to Michigan, Stewart attended Coastal Carolina University for two years from 2021-2022. According to ESPN, as a Chanticleer, he gathered a total of 80 tackles, 16 sacks, and four forced fumbles. When he was a true freshman back in 2021, Stewart...

Two former teammates of Kellen Moore have recently discussed his head coaching candidacy with the New Orleans Saints, and whether or not he would make a good head coach. These former teammates are Dan Orlovsky and member of the Saints Hall of Fame Lance Moore. Both of these players previously played on the Detroit Lions with Kellen Moore, and had the chance to get to know him prior to his coaching days.

Dan Orlovsky outlined the challenges Moore would face in New Orleans and why he believes the young coach can overcome them: “I think whoever gets that job probably goes through a little...

The New Orleans Saints offseason is going to be an intriguing one, as they have 19 pending unrestricted free agents who will hit the market as of this juncture. With that said, three of those free agents were ranked in the top 100 2025 pending free agents list by ProFootballNetwork. These three may not surprise any Saints fans, however, a notable omission was tight end Juwan Johnson, who did not end up making the cut despite the positional scarcity.

The three who did make the list were as follows:

These were probably the three free agents that had the largest impact on the Saints roster...

Both defensive coordinators in the Super Bowl are former Saints coaches

The New Orleans Saints were about the furthest thing you could be from a Super Bowl team this season, firing their head coach halfway through the season on the way to a 5-12 record and a last place finish in the NFC South. However, two former coaches of theirs will be the defensive coordinators in Super Bowl LIX. Vic Fangio is calling defensive plays for the Philadelphia Eagles, and Steve Spagnuolo is his counterpart on the Kansas City Chiefs.

It has been quite a while since either of these coaches worked for the Saints however. Spagnuolo was the defensive coordinator for the 2012 Saints...

The New Orleans Saints will have one of their 2024 undrafted free agents heading to the UFL, as running back Jacob Kibodi will be joining the Memphis Showboats, as first reported by James Larsen of UFL Newsroom. Kibodi has moved around a bit recently, as he would first sign on with the Cleveland Browns practice squad ahead of Week 16, before now signing with the Showboats ahead of their 2025 season.

Kibodi was solid in his preseason reps with the Saints, and had 12 rushes for 59 yards and 2 touchdowns in their third matchup of that span against the Tennessee Titans. Unfortunately he was...

The New Orleans Saints are in somewhat of an intriguing position this offseason, with their head coach and offensive coordinator positions in flux they have some work to do coaching wise. But on top of that, they also have quite a few free agents to discuss and figure out whether or not they want to retain them or let them walk.

One of those free agents is fullback Adam Prentice, who has played in 48 games with the Saints since 2021. While his rushing value is not particularly high, his blocking value is something worth noting for the Saints and their new coaching staff.

With that said...

The New Orleans Saints have not had the best of luck with their first round picks in recent years. Even when they work out talent-wise, they have unfortunate injury luck.

That has been the case with exciting wide receiver Chris Olave, especially this past season. Dating back to his days with the Ohio State Buckeyes, he has now had five known head injuries. That’s a scary total.

When he is on the field though, he is a game changer. This past campaign was a rough one all around, though. In eight games, he posted 32 catches for 400 yards and a touchdown.

This is how much the star wide...
